About the event
While all of us continue to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic, one thing has become clear. As COVID-19 spreads, so have xenophobic and racist attitudes towards the Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) community.
#RacismIsAVirus seeks to share the stories of those within the Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) community as well as allies/others affected by the racialization of COVID-19.
It is also important to note that the racialization of disease is not exclusive to the APIDA community, as diseases such as Ebola in 2014, MERS in 2012, SARS in 2003, the bubonic plague in 1924, and beyond have long-fueled a racialized contagion of fear which harmfully promotes prejudice and discrimination towards various marginalized communities.
Through this campaign, the JHU Inter-Asian Council (IAC) hopes to empower, uplift, and rewrite the narrative of those within and beyond the APIDA community.
If you have a story you would like to share, please…
